The women's rights movement.

The women's rights movement went from 1960-1970's. With in this time women spent much time protesting and fighting for what they looked at as their rights as human beings.Women gained the right to vote in all elections during the 1920's but they did not look as this as a big adjustment or priviledge and they wanted more. In the early 1920's females trying to gain U.S citizenship, had to be married before they could do that. If they were not married they could be put into the white slave trade, which was the act of young women and girls being sold for prostitution. At one time date rape and sexual harassment was not illegal and domestic violence and battered women's shelters were not yet invented. So there was no place for closure or where women felt safe, So women took things into their own hands and fought for there rights!
Women have been fighting to gain the equal rights admenment since the 1920's, but 1972 was the first time that the admenment was ever approved for proposal for the U.S constitution. This would mean that women would have the exact same rights and be treated the same way. In order for this law to pass 3/4 of the state legistlaters to vote for it. Many religious parties were against thee ERA because they thought that this would promote homosexuality and change the bibicle roles of male and female. Yet on the other hand a religious man named Pat Robertson disagreed and thought that the admenment would help protect deviant sexual practices. After all the debate and arguing the bill ended up not getting enough state votes and ended up expiring. Since than the ERA has not been made an official admenment. And with this admenment still not being a law today women and men are not looked at as complete equals in all areas of the the civil liberties.
